John Landay

John K. Landay‘s practice includes a variety of civil litigation areas in state and federal courts, including employment, real estate, construction defect, professional liability and complex commercial disputes.

John has been involved in many settlement negotiations and mediations and has helped to successfully prosecute and defend several high stakes lawsuits and settle cases on favorable terms.

John has assisted in the representation of various clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 companies. He has represented well-respected law firms in legal malpractice actions, departing investment advisers accused of misappropriating trade secrets, corporate defendants accused of tort and statutory violations in a multimillion dollar litigation, and a developer’s consultant in a complex construction defect matter. John has defended and taken depositions, appeared in both state and federal courts and successfully arbitrated a contract dispute for a startup company.

An active member of the San Diego community, John contributes regularly to Trial Bar News, serves as the commissioner of the San Diego County Bar Basketball League and is the legal chair of U.S. Lacrosse, San Diego Chapter. In his free time, John coaches for the Scripps Ranch Lacrosse Association and 3d Lacrosse.

John was born and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland.

He attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where he majored in psychology and worked as a congressional intern. While at Wesleyan, he was a four­ year varsity letter winner in lacrosse and named a 2001 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-American.

After graduation, John attended Washington & Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia, where he received his juris doctor in May 2007. While in law school, he participated in the Mock Trial Competition and the Client Counseling Competition. He was also an assistant coach for the men’s varsity lacrosse team.

Additionally, John attended Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany, and studied international law during the fall semester of 2006.
